BA/MIA Program Description

The International Studies Program and the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies have collaborated to create a combined five-year Bachelor of Arts / Master of International Affairs program. The combined program is designed specifically for selected UCSD undergraduate majors in International Studies who seek advanced training for leadership positions in the Pacific Rim community.

IMPORTANT - This program is only open to UCSD International Studies majors in one of the following two track options

Primary Track - Economics / Secondary Track - Political Science

Primary Track - Political Science / Secondary Track - Economics

The combined B.A./M.I.A. program retains and builds on the interdisciplinary core of the existing International Studies degree and adds to it the professional training of a one-year Master of International Affairs degree. During the Senior/4th Year of this streamlined program, students will apply a rigorous, graduate-level curriculum toward the completion of their undergraduate degree in International Studies. Students will be fully matriculated at IR/PS as graduate/professional students in the 5th Year, at the end of which they will receive their M.I.A.

** Students who missed the application deadline, who are interested in pursuing a graduate degree in International Affairs with a focus on Pacific Rim countries, should consider applying for the two-year M.P.I.A. program at IR/PS.
