Academic Internship Program (AIP)

The Academic Internship Program offers students an opportunity to apply academic knowledge and analytical skills in professional settings while earning academic credit.

The following guidelines must be met in order for the International Studies Program to consider granting course credit:

  • Research topic must be pre-approved by an ISP Advisor – this initial review does not guarantee course credit.
  • Students must write a substantial research paper of at least 4,500 words (approximately 15-20 pages of written work), 1 inch margins, 12 point font (bibliography and charts/graphs NOT included in page count).
  • Students must have a faculty advisor.
  • Students must read scholarly materials and incorporate them into the research paper.

To receive course credit:

Major Disciplinary Focus

To apply toward this requirement, the research paper must match the field of study of the Disciplinary Focus and have at least 50% international content.

Major Interdisciplinary Elective

To apply toward this requirement, the research paper must have at least 50% international content but can be from any field of study.

Minor

To apply toward the minor, the research paper topic must have at least 50% international content and match the field of study in Track 1 or Track 2.

After completion of the internship:

  • A formal undergraduate student petition must be submitted along with the final research paper.
  • The petition and paper will be evaluated by the ISP Director.
