Secondary Track Information

  • All courses must be taken for a letter grade of C- or better.
  • A secondary track CANNOT be the same as the primary track.
  • To fulfill a secondary track, students must select and complete five (5) 4-unit, upper-division, non-language courses that focus more than 50% on the region.
    •  Please note that we do not have an official list of courses that will count towards your Secondary Track (ST) of European Studies. If you plan to pursue European Studies for your ST, you will need to look at the schedule of classes and search for courses on Europe or a specific European country.
    • You may search in any subject/department of interest. Courses must be taken from at least 2 different departments.
  • Students may take a maximum of 2 courses from their primary track department to count toward their secondary track.  No primary track & secondary track overlap.
    • Example: A student with a primary track of Political Science and secondary track of European Studies may take POLI 120A. Political Development of Western Europe and choose to count it toward only their secondary track.  Please note that the course will NOT count to fulfill requirements in both the primary and secondary track at the same time.

Course Approval: Each quarter you will need to send a VAC message to the International Studies Program advisors proposing courses that you would like to take for the European Studies ST.  The advisor will evaluate each individual course and determine if it will apply to the ST.  You will need to repeat this process every quarter that you wish to take courses for the European Studies ST.
