Virtual Advising Center (VAC)

Advisors are readily available through the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) to answer your academic advising questions. Questions directed through the VAC will be answered within 24-48 hours. 

The following can be addressed in the VAC: 

  • Questions regarding major and minor requirements
  • Degree Audit check and correction
  • Graduation Check

Drop-in Advising


ISP Advisors are available for drop-in advising both in-person and via Zoom.

In-person advising:
  • Available at the  Robinson Building Complex, downstairs in Building 3.
    • Please use the QR codes at the front desk to check in. 
    • Students who are in-person will take priority over students on Zoom.

  • Enrollment Questions

 If you are interested in making a quarter by quarter plan with an advisor, please create a plan to the best of your knowledge and come to drop-in advising with the prepared plan. ISP Advisors can review your quarter by quarter plan and make necessary edits. Major specific quarter by quarter plans can be found on your major’s homepage


ISP Advising Appointments

ISP Advising Appointments (Zoom & In-Person) 

  • Please be clear in your appointment request why you need to meet with an ISP Advisor through an appointment instead of during drop-in advising. 
  • If you are unavailable during our advising hours below, you may send advisors your availability Monday - Friday and they will do their best to accommodate your request.

Appointment Advising Hours:

Tuesday - Thursday  9:00 - 11:00 am & 1:00 - 3:00 pm (PST)

There will be limited advising appointments available during Weeks 1-2 and Weeks 8-9 to accommodate the high volume of drop-in advising for the beginning of the quarter and enrollment periods.

To schedule an appointment, complete the ISP Appointment Request Form .   A confirmation message will be sent to you in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) with detailed information on how to access virtual appointments via Zoom. In-person appointments will take place in the ISP offices at the Robinson Building Complex. 

Appointment Policies

  • Appointments must be scheduled at least 48 business hours in advance
  • If you are no longer able to meet with an advisor at your appointment time, you must email isp@ucsd.edu to cancel/reschedule
  • Students who miss their appointment or are more than 5 minutes late will have their appointment cancelled and must visit ISP drop-in advising before scheduling a new appointment 

 Academic Form Review and Signature

If you need an advisor to review and sign an academic form, you may submit the completed form to isp@ucsd.edu . Be sure to include your lived name, PID, and other supporting information. Please allow 3-4 business days for processing. 

Examples of these forms include: 

If you need to submit an undergraduate student petition form for your International Studies major or minor requirements, please review ISP petition information and submit via the online petition form.

If you have several questions about the form and/or you would like to discuss how to complete the form, please visit us in drop-in advising. 

BA/MIA Advising

If you have a quick question about the BA/MIA program requirements, you may send a message to the International Studies Program in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) . An advisor will respond within 24-48 hours.

Advisors are available by phone to answer general questions. Please note that advisors are not able to provide academic advising beyond general questions over the phone per University policy.
