Academic Advising

UC San Diego is actively monitoring the continuing local and global developments surrounding the novel coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease. In compliance with campus regulations to protect the safety of our community,  the International Studies Program Advising staff is working remotely. While they are not available to meet with you on campus, they are still available to answer your questions and hold advising sessions.

Virtual Advising Center (VAC)

Advisors are readily available through the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) to answer your academic advising questions. Questions directed through the VAC will be answered within 24-48 hours. 

The following can be addressed in the VAC: 

  • Questions regarding major and minor requirements
  • Degree Audit check and correction
  • Graduation Check     


   Drop-in Advising for Fall 2020 Enrollment via Zoom


ISP Advisors will be available for drop-in advising via Zoom for Fall 2020 Enrollment questions. 

May 19 - 21 & May 26 - 28

9:00 - 11:00am & 1:00 - 3:00pm

You'll be able to meet with an advisor for 5-10 minutes for questions about Fall 2020 enrollment.  If you need additional time, complete an appointment request form below to schedule an appointment during Week 10.

Online Appointments via Zoom 


30-minute appointments are available online via Zoom to address inquiries such as:

  • Long-term academic planning for major requirements
  • Degree Audit check and correction
  • Current quarter planning and scheduling
  • Selecting classes for next quarter
  • Study Abroad Planning
  • Planning for the BA/MIA or Honors Program
  • Readmission

Zoom Online Advising Hours:

Tuesday - Thursday  9:00 - 11:00 am & 1:00 - 3:00 pm (PST)

Appointments not available during Weeks 8-9 (May 18 - June 1) due to Fall 2020 enrollment. 

If you are unavailable during these times, you may send advisors your availability Monday - Friday and they will do their best to accommodate your request.

To schedule an appointment, complete the ISP Appointment Request Form.  A confirmation message will be sent to you in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) with detailed information on how to access the appointment via Zoom.

Appointment Policies

  • Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance
  • Students who are more than 10 minutes late will need to reschedule the appointment
  • If you are no longer able to meet with an advisor at your appointment time, you must email to cancel/reschedule


Academic Form Review and Signature

If you need an advisor to review and sign an academic form, you may submit the completed form to Be sure to include your name, PID, and other supporting information. Please allow 24-48 hours for processing. 

Examples of these forms include: 

  • Double Major Petition, Readmission form, Academic Planning form, Financial Aid forms, Double Major petitions, Maximum Unit Appeal forms, etc.

If you need to submit an undergraudate student petition form for your International Studies major or minor requirements, please review ISP petition information and submit via the online petition form.

If you have several questions about the form and/or you would like to discuss how to complete the form, you will need to schedule an online appointment with an advisor. 


BA/MIA Advising

If you have a quick question about the BA/MIA program requirements, you may send a message to the International Studies Program in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC). An advisor will respond within 24-28 hours.
