International Studies majors must complete three Interdisciplinary Elective courses from departments outside of their chosen Disciplinary Focus department. Interdisciplinary Elective courses must be upper division, at least 4 quarter units, non-language, taken for a letter grade of C- or better, and must be selected from this pre-approved list. Students are responsible for meeting all departmental pre-requisite courses.
International Studies majors must also complete a Regional Requirement. The courses taken as fulfillment may overlap with those taken to complete the major’s Disciplinary and/or Interdisciplinary requirement. The Regional Requirement can also be fulfilled by courses that are not among those used to complete the major track and interdisciplinary electives. The current regions of focus are Africa, East Asia, Europe (which includes Russia), Latin America, and the Middle East.
For International Studies-International Business majors, all three interdisciplinary electives must focus on one region.
These courses are not offered every quarter. For current offerings, please refer to Schedule of Classes and Course Offerings. For course descriptions, please see the UCSD general catalog.
