INTL 190: Enrollment Procedures

Enrollment in INTL 190 seminars is controlled by ISP advising. Please speak with an advisor if you have questions about your eligibility.

  • An email is sent out from isp@ucsd.edu to students with at least 125.0 units on the day the schedule of classes is released for the next quarter.  Refer to the Enrollment and Registration Calendars for exact dates.
    • Fall Quarter: Early May
    • Winter Quarter: Early November
    • Spring Quarter: Early February
    • Summer Session: Mid March (for your best opportunity for a seat in Summer, students should complete the Spring Enrollment form and indicate that they would like to take the course in Summer.)
  • Students must complete the enrollment form within that email by the indicated deadline.
  • Seats will be allocated to students based on priority and students will be contacted in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) with enrollment instructions.
  • Students who are requesting to add INTL190 after the first week of instruction must meet with an ISP Advisor to discuss why they need to add the course late. Late enrollment in INTL190 will be up to the discretion of the respective professor.

INTL 190: Priority Criteria for Allocations

Given that a student has successfully completed INTL 101 and INTL 102 with a C- or better (or P/NP for Spring 2020,) ISP utilizes the following criteria to prioritize allocations:

  •  Seniors graduating in the given quarter - priority is given to:
    • 4th year Senior Freshman Entry Students
    • 2nd year Senior Transfer Students
  • Students who declared ISP major upon entry to UC San Diego

Other Criteria taken into consideration:

  • When student completed INTL 101 and INTL 102 courses - we do not recommend that you leave these courses until your final quarters at UC San Diego.  The earlier you take these courses, the better.
  • When student transferred into the International Studies Program - students who transfer into an ISP major late in their academic career will have lower priority.  We do not recommend that you wait until your senior year to switch your major and/or declare a double major in ISP.
  • Students who study abroad or participate in programs away from campus for a full year during their senior year will not be prioritized in their junior year.
  • If a student was allocated a seat in INTL 190 in a previous quarter but did not enroll or contact the ISP Advisors, they will have lower priority for future quarters.
